Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK patriarch M Karunanidhi passes away after battling illness at the Kauvery hospital in Chennai on Tuesday. He was 94.

His death came as shock to many celebs. Abirami Ramanathan and Rohini Pannerselvam, who are members of the Theatre’s Association have cancelled all the shows of evening and night across the state.

Karunanidhi was the first leader to enter the 50th year as the president of a political party. He became Tamil Nadu’s CM in 1969 for the first time and had held the position in the state five times, with the last tenure being in  2006.

Before entering in politics, he worked in the Tamil film industry as a screenwriter. His first movie was Rajakumari produced by Coimbatore based Jupiter Pictures directed by ASA Sami starring MG Ramachandran.

Known as one of the prominent leaders, Karunanidhi had dedicated 80 years of his life in the service of Tamil Nadu people. Many of expressed their grief on Twitter.
