RIP: Popular Tamil Actor Vinu Chakravarthy who introduced Silk Smitha Passes Away!

Veteran Tamil actor, and scriptwriter, Vinu Chakravarthy, who introduced iconic actress Silk Smitha to the silver screen in the 1980 movie “Vandi Chakkaram,” passed away today after prolonged illness.

He was 74 and is survived by his wife, son and a daughter.

A statement said Chakravarthy passed away after battling three-year-long health-related issues.

It said that he had acted in 1002 films, mostly in Tamil.

“He had a paralytic attack some time back and for the last two days he had respiratory problems. He passed away today,” Chakravarthy’s grandson V Adi Shankar told PTI.

Chakravarthy’s son is expected to arrive from London tomorrow and the funeral is likely to take place in the evening, family sources said.

Born in 1945, he began his career as a script writer and worked under Kannada director Puttana Kanagal. In 1977, he was spotted by producer Tirupur Mani, who gave him his first acting break in Kannada film “Parasangada Gendetimma”.

The actor had also been a notable feature in several films of actor Rajinikanth including Guru Sishyan, Raajathi Raja and Annamalai.

Superstar Rajinikanth shows his condolences to his family on Twitter. He wrote “RIP Vinu Chakravarthi… my condolences to the family”.

He was last seen on screen in the Tamil movie Vaayai Moodi Pesavum which was directed by Balaji Mohan. He was also seen in a prominent role in Muni, the 2007 horror-comedy film directed by Raghava Lawrence.

His last rites will be performed on Friday.
