Veteran Bengali actor Santu Mukhopadhyay who was known for his works in films such as Sansar Simante and Bhalobasa Bhalobasa has passes away after a prolonged illness. He was 69.

Santu Mukhopadhyay had been suffering from carcinoma for long and had been admitted to a hospital on February 4 with blood sugar and hypertension. He was discharged in the last week of February and taken home. He died of cardiac arrest on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.

He is survived by his two daughters- one of them actress Swastika.

Mukhopadhay made his film debut at the age of 24 in Raja directed by Tapan Sinha. Soon after he got acclaim for his acting in Sansar Simante directed by Tarun Majumdar.

He was also popular on the small screen where he worked in hit serials like Ishti Kutum, Jol Nupur, Kusum Dola and Andarmahal.

Among his other famous films are Ganadebata, Harmonium, Bhalobasa Bhalobasa, Pratima, Prafulla, Shesh Rakkha, Dadamoni, Kalankini kankaboti, Hemanter Pakhi, Tagari.
