The 65th National Film Awards 2018 ceremony held at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on Thursday. The ceremony got marred by controversy after it was announced that President Ram Nath Kovind will not be giving away awards to all the 140 winners.

Late actor Vinod Khanna was honoured with the Dadasahed Phalke Award  for his contribution to the world of cinema. To receive the award, the late actor’s son Akshaye Khanna and Kavita Khanna reached there.

The honour was handed to them by President Ram Nath Kovind and Information and Broadcasting and Textiles Minister Smriti Irani.

About receiving the honour for his father, Akshay Khanna told PTI, “We are really proud as a family. It is a bittersweet moment for us. I wish my father was here to receive this award. I am missing him. It is an emotional day for us.”

Vinod Khanna died on April 27, 2017 due to bladder cancer at a hospital in Mumbai. He was 70. The entire film industry along with his many fans and relatives mourned his demise. He was not only known for his acting skills but also for being one of the most handsome men of his time.

Till the very end, Khanna was active in Bollywood. His last few memorable screen outings were in Salman Khan’s “Dabangg” series and Shah Rukh Khan’s “Dilwale” in 2015.
