The trailer starts with Pankaj Tripathi, the village man narrating everyone the story of ‘stree’ who’s the believed to be the ghost of an attractive prostitute who lived in the city years ago and who was the desire of every man. She finally got a man who loved her soul instead, and truly loved her.

From the trailer, it looks like the myth of a ghost named Stree has existed in this village for ages. She is known as the ghost who kills men leaving only their clothes behind when she comes to visit the town every year for four days and the trailer strongly hints that Stree is indeed Shraddha Kapoor’s character.

Stree is based on the urban legend of Nale Ba from 1990’s Karnataka. The myth says that a witch would come knocking at people’s doors at night. The witch would deceive people by taking out the voices of their kin and enter the house. Whoever opens the door is believed to die. To cope with this, the residents of the area would write ‘Nale Ba’ (means ‘come tomorrow’ in Kannada) outside their doors and walls of their houses which would make the witch go away and the cycle would repeat.

Directed by Amar Kaushik, Written by Raj and DK, the film has been shot at Chanderi, a small town near Bhopal.

It is produced by Dinesh Vijan, under the banner of Maddock Films. Stree will hit the screens on August 31, 2018.
