Bollywood actors Akshay Kumar and Sonam Kapoor who are all set to appear in their upcoming film, Padman has now recently collaborated for a video’#AbSamjhautaNahin – The Shopping List’, to draw attention on menstrual hygiene in India!
In the video, Sonam talking about the items on her shopping list – which includes things like hay, ash, sawdust, old and used bits of cloth, paper, discarded thermocol and more that women in villages or from low income groups use during their period.
Than actor Akshay Kumar talks about the item on his shopping list – a sanitary pads XL with wings. Akshay Kumar highlights the difference between the shopping list of privileged and underprivileged women and the dependency of majority of women on alternatives like coconut husk, sand, dry leaves, dirty rags, wood shavings, and dirty cotton.

The video concludes with the lead actors requesting viewers to donate a minimum of Rs. 400 to The Vatsalya Foundation in order to facilitate a year-round availability of sanitary pads to women in various parts of the country.

Padman is based on the life of Arunachalam Muruganantham, who is the inventor of a low-cost sanitary pad making machine and has helped spread awareness about traditional unhygienic practices around menstruation in rural India.
The film is Twinkle Khanna’s production venture in association with Gauri Shinde. ‘Padman’ also stars Sonam Kapoor and Radhika Apte who play the female leads in the film.
Written and directed by R Balkiof ‘Ki and Ka’ fame, ‘Padman’ is slated to release on Feburary 9.
