Reportedly, the actor walked out of ‘Manikarnika’ after a showdown with Kangana Ranaut. He was asked to reshoot portions for “Manikarnika” by Kangana.

Sonu, who is currently sporting a beard for Simmba , has been asked to clean shave for his role in Manikarnika. Sonu had asked the makers of the biopic to finish the reshoots after he completes his schedule for “Simmba”. But, things didn’t fall in it’s place and Sonu decided to quit the film.

When Kangana was quizzed about Sonu’s exit, she said that Sonu was not willing to shoot under a woman director and was not giving the required dates to re-shoot his portions.

Well now, Sonu himself has finally reacted to Kangana’s allegations of refusing to work under a woman director. While talking to an entertainment portal, he said “The gender of the director is not the issue. Competence is. Let’s not confuse the two.  I’ve worked with Farah Khan [For Happy New Year] who’s a competent woman director and Farah and I had a great professional equation and we are still best of friends. That’s all I would like to say.”

For those who’ve come in late, in response to Sonu blaming change of director as the reason for his exit from Manikarnika, Kangana had told a section of media, “Sonu and I haven’t even met since the last shot with Krish (director) last year. He is busy filming Simmba. He couldn’t even give us tentative dates to match combinations with other actors. The producers showed him the film and writers narrated the patchwork to him. He refused to meet me. He vehemently denied to work under a woman director, which is kind of amusing because Sonu is a dear friend and I have even launched the music of a film that he produced, at his request. Even though the team suggested that they have full faith in me, it seems, Sonu had neither dates nor faith.”

Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, the film will star Kangana Ranaut as a Rani Lakshmibai, Ankita Lokhande as a Maratha soldier Jhalkarbai while Atul Kulkarni will be seen as Tatya Tope.

The release date of the film is yet to be announced.
