Recently, their were news doing the rounds that stand-up comedian Shyam Rangeela, who was seen in the comedy show ‘The Great Indian Laughter Challenge’ was asked not to mimic PM Narendra Modi and Rahul Gandhi on the show.
Rangeela was invited by the channel to participate in the show after his videos mimicking Modi and other politicians went viral on social media.
In an interview, Rangeela told that “I got a chance to be a part of this show because of my mimicry. But when I gave my first performance while mimicking Modiji and Rahul (Gandhi), I was informed to do some other act. Then I was informed that I can’t do the Modi act and can mimic Rahul. So, I started making another script. But after a few days, I was again told not to mimic Rahul also. In the end, I performed the same script in my own voice – with just two days’ rehearsals and got eliminated.”
Not only this, the production team not even air his act because the channel feared that it will offend some people and they might protest against them.

Well now, the comedian has found a support in Sunil Pal. Yes, you heard it right. Sunil Pal comes out in support of Shyam Rangeela.
Sunil said, there is nothing wrong in mimicking politicians or actors if it’s being done in good humour.
Pal, also an actor, said he has himself in his decade-long career mimicked so many politicians and actors like Irrfan Khan and Nana Patekar, but none of them has ever taken an offence.
“They should have aired it. I’m sure even Modi ji would not have had any problem with that. Rangeela was only imitating Modi ji. It’s not like that he was abusing him or saying bad things about him. I don’t understand what’s the big deal in that.”
Pal said in the past a lot of comedians and other people have cracked jokes on former prime minister Manmohan Singh so why alone Rangeela is being targeted. “Modi ji himself is a big lover of art. Now that he’s India’s Prime Minister he doesn’t get time to attend programmes. However, earlier he used to attend several Kavi Sammelans. I’m sure he would have liked Rangeela’s act.”
Sunil also slammed the creative team of The Great Indian Laughter Challenge calling them ill-informed. He revealed that he got a call from the show’s creative team few years back asking if he wants to participate. When the comedian said yes, they asked him to send his video without knowing that he was the former winner.
He also talked about the current season saying, “They have zero knowledge. They are just eliminating good artistes. I think this season is good for nothing. No TRPs.”
