Sony TV’s latest show ‘Pehredaar Piya Ki’ starring ‘Swaragini’ fame Tejasswi Prakash in lead role has been facing a lot of flak online ever since the promo went on-air. The serial showcases how an 18 year old girl marries a 10 year old kid to protect him from the world. Many people are blasting the show saying that the makers are showing stupidity in the name of content.

TV actor Karan Wahi, too, took to his Facebook account to criticize the nature of its plot.

He wrote: “Dear producer and channel .. i understand we cant make shows like how i met ur mother and friends, and honestly i dont expect us to also, but for the love of god and for the reason we all got in this industry plz dont sell me stupidity in the name of content whch gives trp because honestly noone is watching this . Leave aside other people i think the fraternity only dsnt . I wish and pray well fr everyone whose a part of this show also but it wud be great if we started enjoying our work and not just working because we dont have an option… Not to sound arrogant but we can be better than this.”

Reacting to this, Suyyash Rai, who plays Kunwar Abhay Singh on the same show, opened up on his Instagram account and urged people not to jump to conclusions too soon.

Suyyash also elaborated on the lehenga scene, which has caused maximum annoyance to many. Well, there is a scene where Diya asks Ratan (Affan Khan) to hold her lehenga so that she can wear her anklets. “I want to ask girls/women if they haven’t ever asked a younger brother or a friend to hold their lehenga a little above their ankles to wear an anklet. If you see the scene, he just holds it a little above, enough for her to tie her payal. Such kind of objections only show the shit mentality of people. They are talking like he has stripped her off her lehenga. Yes, he is awed because he is with Diya but it the same kind of feeling little boys have when they get a crush,” says Suyyash.

And come to think of it, we have seen children being brutally attacked on shows. Some even go to the extent of having black magic practiced on them. Isn’t that negative influence? “Aap TV par naagin, black magic dekhte ho and a woman becomes a makkhi People accept it with open arms. Pehredaar Piya Ki is another experiment at telling a hatke story. In a one-liner, either this show will do really well or shut shop soon. All I can say is that, it is not a mediocre show. And it is nothing in front of what people have seen,” he said.

The makers of the show have clarified that they don’t endorse child marriage in the show but the viewers are still tagging it as regressive and absurd.
