The filmdom mourned the death of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa who passed away in Chennai after suffering a cardiac arrest on Monday at the age of 68.
The veteran actor-turned-politician had been admitted to hospital for the last 75 days and passes away, breathing her last at 11:30 pm on Monday due to cardiac arrest.
Soon after the news of Amma’s demise, condolences started pouring in on Twitter, not just from the political but also the film industry too.
Superstar Rajinikanth paid her a rich tribute and described her as India’s brave daughter. “Not just Tamil Nadu but the whole of India lost a brave daughter. May her soul rest in peace,” Rajinikanth tweeted.

The actor this morning visited the public auditorium where J Jayalalithaa’s body, draped in the national flag, was displayed for lakhs of visitors before her funeral, scheduled for 4.30 this evening.
Rajinikanth, 65, was seen standing next to Sasikala Natarajan, who was Ms Jayalalithaa’s closest aide. The actor then bowed his head in respect, paying tribute to one of the most powerful and successful political leaders in the country.
Like Rajinikanth, Ms Jayalalithaa was a wildly popular actor. She acted in nearly 150 films before she was initiated into politics in the 80s by her former co-star and mentor, MG Ramachandran.
Other actors who mourned the death of Jayalalithaa include Amitabh Bachchan, Dhanush, Shah Rukh Khan, Sivakarthikeyan, Sathyaraj, Karthi and Vijay Sethupathi. The final rites will be performed today.
