Vidya Balan will be seen as a radio jockey (RJ) named Sulochana, fondly known as Sulu, in the upcoming film “Tumhari Sulu”.
Vidya who plays a happy, middle-class house wife who unexpectedly lands a job as a RJ of a late night radio show in Suresh Triveni’s directorial debut, ‘Tumhari Sulu’.
The shoot of this film starts on April 26 and will be filmed in Mumbai over a period of two months.
The “Begum Jaan” actress will shoot at a 16000 sq feet office on the top floor of Bandra Kurla Complex tower. The makers have ditched the idea of shooting in a real radio station and decided to rent a space.
Dhara Jain the creative mind behind it says, “We wanted to create a space which will allow the actress’ creativity to flow and she will forget about other worries in the film.” Currently there is tight security around this space as the makers don’t want anyone else to have a glimpse of the office being built.[ecp code=”4″]
Talking about her role in the film Vidya said earlier “Sulu is like that nimbu (lemon)… you add nimbu for taste or then add it to balance taste; zesty and versatile! I think she will unleash my naughty side”.
Co-produced by T-Series, “Tumhari Sulu” is a “lovely heart-warming story made for Vidya”, said Bhushan Kumar, T-Series honcho. Sulu lands herself an unexpected job of an RJ, who anchors a late-night show, known for its voyeuristic quality and semi-adult shenanigans.
“The character of Sulu is fun, happy-go-lucky and grounded, everything that Vidya is even in real life,” said joint producers Tanuj Garg, Atul Kasbekar and Shanti Sivaram Maini of Ellipsis Entertainment.
The film’s director Suresh Triveni says he feels honoured to have Vidya as the lead actress. “‘Tumhari Sulu’ has been handcrafted for Vidya and to have her as a lead in my first feature is an honour. I look forward to seeing the story come alive as I have lived with it for almost a year now,” he said.
‘Tumhari Sulu’ is slated to release on December 1.
