IIFA 2017 saw Bollywood actors at their best while receiving and applauding the finest performances of the year. However, the show also made headlines because of the distasteful dig at Kangana Ranaut and her stand against Nepotism.
Along with shows host Karan Johar and Saif Ali Khan, actor Varun Dhawan too took a dig at the ‘Rangoon’ actress. Their ‘Nepotism Rocks’ act clearly did not go down well with social media buffs. Within minutes the trio got trolled on social media.
And to undo the damage, filmmaker David Dhawan’s son Varun Dhawan took to the micro-blogging site Twitter and apologized for his act at IIFA 2017. He tweeted, “I express my apology and regret .. I am extremely sorry if I have offended or hurt anyone with that act..”
Performing at #NewYorkCity iifa was an amazing experience. Inspired and humbled and sorry if I let anyone down. ❤️ #onelove

Karan and Saif, who were hosting the gala, revisited the much-talked about nepotism issue that started in Bollywood when actress Kangana Ranaut branded Karan as a “flagbearer of nepotism” on his chat show “Koffee With Karan”.

When Varun joined the two actors on the stage to receive the Best Performance in a Comic Role for “Dishoom”, Saif joked that the actor had made it big in the industry because of his father, director David Dhawan.
Varun then didn’t leave a chance to take a potshot at Karan saying: “There was a song in your film… ‘Bole choodiyan, bole kangana.”
Karan, with his quick wit, then commented: “Kangana naa hi bole toh achha hai… Kangana bahut bolti hai. (It’s better Kangana doesn’t say anything, she talks a lot.”
With this hilarious comment, the audience were laughing as they were reminded of the controversy that Kangana Ranaut had sparked when she debuted on the show, “Koffee With Karan”. She had said that Karan Johar was a ‘flag-bearer of nepotism’ in Bollywood. Well, Karan hilarious dig at Kangana will be with the Bollywood stars for a long time and even longer with Kangana Ranaut.
Do you think Varun Dhawan is really sorry about his act that happened at IIFA Awards 2017?
