One of the most critically acclaimed actors in Bollywood, Nawazuddin Siddiqui attempts to strike at the heart of secularism and make an emotional appeal to the viewer.
While the debate on secularism in the country rages on, the actor surprised fans and fellow artists by sharing a short but powerful video message. The clip titled ‘Sixteen Point Six Six’, aims at bringing an end to religious discrimination and giving humanity a chance to grow in today’s society.
In the video, the ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ star is seen showing a series of placards, a format that Gurmehar Kaur, daughter of a martyr killed in action, used in her viral video.
The video starts off with Nawaz introducing himself, before revealing the results of a DNA test he got done. Holding up placards, he says, “Hi, I am Nawazuddin Siddiqui. I had got my DNA test done and when the report came in, I found that I am…”
Turns out that Nawaz is ‘16.66 percent Muslim,’ ‘16.66% Hindu,’ 16.66% Christian,’ ‘16.66% Sikh,’ ‘16.66% Buddhist’ and ‘16.66% other religions’ – all adding up to ‘100% artist.’

The video calls for artistic freedom and urges people to look at artistes beyond religion. The video seems to be Nawaz’s own way of weighing on the national debate raging on secularism in the country.
Finally, he says that when he ‘discovered his soul’, he found that he is ‘100% artist’.
On the work front, the actor has four films set to hit screens in the coming months namely ‘Munna Michael’, ‘Manto’, ‘Mom’ and ‘Babumoshai Bandookbaaz’.
