The official trailer of Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar’s upcoming film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is out. Inspired from Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Swachch Bharat Abhiyan, film brings to notice a problem that is still prevalent in major parts of the country.
We all keep wondering about Akshay’s choices of movies and how he picks one blockbuster after the other. With his current choices, especially since the last couple of years, the actor has tried to create a difference and have an impact with his work and “Toilet – Ek Prem Katha” is nothing different.
But do you guys know that Akki was never the first choice for this role?
Yes, you read it right!
The producer, Neeraj Pandey was very clear that he wanted a younger actor and Akshay would not suit the role at all. The film’s director Shree Narayan Singh too agreed with the producer, because Pandey was clear that the soon-to-be 50-year-old Akshay would look mismatched when it came to wooing a girl and getting married to her. Akshay has also been doing a lot of realistic cinema, hence would not fit the role.

Siddharth and Garima, who have earlier penned down “Ram Leela”, “Brothers” and even “Raabta” were quite excited about Toilet – Ek Prem Katha’s script. And since the time they completed it, they always had Akki in their mind for the role. But the makers felt he wasn’t the apt choice and movie needed someone else.
The producer of the movie Neeraj Pandey was not convinced that the Rustom actor would suit the role well. “Akshay was always the first choice for me and Siddharth. We did face a little bit of friction from the production house on whether he should be on board but we both were always adamant on having him”, Garima was quoted as saying to Inuth.
A few younger actors were then considered in the preliminary meetings, but nothing worked. In the meantime, the scriptwriters re-wrote the film and thus adapting it to accommodate Akshay, much to the delight of the makers.
Directed by Shree Narayan Singh, “Toilet: Ek Prem Katha” also stars Bhumi Pednekar in a pivotal role. The film is all set to hit the cinemas on August 11.
