Chhapaak movie Review
Story of the movie:
Chhapaak narrates the story of 19-year-old Malti (Deepika Padukone) who, as a happy teenager, aspired to be a singer. But, one day she is attacked in broad daylight on the streets of Delhi by a friend of the family, Bashir Khan aka Babbu after she rejects his romantic advances. As the narrative chooses a non-linear route, we first meet Malti when she is on a job hunt – consciously trying to move on from the emotional scars that the heinous crime has left her with. For the physical scars, she has to go through a number of complicated surgeries. In fact, far from the dreams she nursed of being a singer, her life is now an intersection of her work with an NGO for acid victims, her multiple surgeries and her court cases.
Deepika Padukone has delivered an outstanding performance as Malti. As her boyfriend, Vikrant Massey has also delivered good acting and his chemistry with her is a treat to watch on screen. While, others like Vishal Dahiya, Madhurjeet Sarghi and Ankit Bisht have also done justice to their respective roles.
The film’s music is good. The title track by Arijit Singh strikes all the right chords & it’s totally soul-moving.
Meghna Gulzar’s direction is outstanding. Dialogues are catchy. The story sends out a strong message and is undoubtedly a brave attempt, however the edit seems choppy. The director has treated the subject with the sensitivity and seriousness it deserves. Moreover, her narration is brilliant and engaging.
Watch Or Not:
It’s a watch worthy film.
