Reel Story: In the movie, Geeta Phogat struggles to win the gold medal match in the Commonwealth Games in 2010.  In the movie, the match was more dramatized in order to build up audience interest where she won the match with 3-0, 4-6 and 6-5 points.

Real Story: However, in reality, Geeta Phogat completely dominated her opponent and won the match in just two rounds, unlike the one shown in the movie that went on to three rounds. Her score was 1-0, 7-0.

6. Was Mahavir Phogat locked up during Geeta’s Commonwealth Games final match?

Reel Story: In the movie, Mahavir Phogat is taken to a room and locked up by a person sent by the Indian wrestling team coach just before the gold medal match. As a result, he misses the entire final.

Real Story: In reality, Mahavir Singh Phogat was in the stands during Geeta’s match and saw his daughter win the Commonwealth Games gold medal.

However, this scene of the film upset the real Geeta Phogat’s coach, PR Sodhi. Sondhi, who was one of the five coaches of India’s women wrestling team during Commonwealth games 2010, has stated that he might take some legal actions against the makers of the film for fictionalizing his character and putting him in bad light.
