The party has filed a complaint to the Election Commission against the makers of these popular entertainment serials for promoting schemes launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A report in the tabloid states, “Congress compared it with paid news and said that the Commission must intervene and initiate steps against the BJP as well as the channels.”

Maharashtra Congress General Secretary Sachin Sawant also shared clips of the shows in which the characters are seen talking about the benefits of the Ujjwala Gas Yojana, Swachh Bharat Abhiyan and Mudra Yojana.

Talking about the same, Sachin Sawant said “We approached the Election Commission seeking ban on the two channels for airing content that exalts the schemes and ruling party leaders. It violates the model code of conduct and betrays viewers.”

Blaming BJP for influencing the voters unfairly, Sawant sais, “The party is using deceptive and illegal means to garner votes. The serials with high TRP are being used for promotion to benefit the ruling party. We want the EC to suspend the serials and the channels immediately and seek action against the BJP.”
