Recently, Kapil Sharma’s upcoming film ‘Firangi’ trailer is launched. But ahead of it, let’s clear the air about the many “rumours.”
From getting into a scuffle with co-star Sunil Grover to cancelling shoots with Bollywood biggies such as Shah Rukh Khan and Anil Kapoor, comedian Kapil Sharma has been going through a low phase since the beginning of this year.
At the trailer launch of his film, Firangi, Kapil opened up and made some heartening confessions about his fight with alcoholism and suicidal thoughts, his health issues and how Shah Rukh Khan asked him to take a break and gather himself.
Talking about suicidal thoughts and depression, Kapil said “I could not step on the stage to perform and would cancel the shoot. I suffered from anxiety and drank myself silly. I would stay locked up in the office with my pet dog. People stopped coming on the show and I went off the radar.”
“One of my close friends asked me to shift to his seaside apartment. He thought a change of scene would be good for me. As I saw the wide expanse of sea from his balcony, I felt like jumping into it. I was depressed; it felt like the world was gunning for me.” he added.

Kapil also spoke about how he turned to being an alcoholic thinking it would help him. He said, “I used to travel a lot for my film. Almost 7-8 hours used to go in it. And the media used to tell so much about me that I’m an alcoholic and all. I never had a PR to control all the image bashing. Then, there is Twitter and all this pressure. Now, I am impulsive – that’s just the way I am. I can’t do anything about it. However I may be, one thing is certain that I am a complete pure-hearted soul. All this negative publicity had put me in depression.”
Kapil said he never had a major fight with Sunil, but things were blown out of proportion. He said he still respects Sunil and would like to collaborate with him again.
“Something did happen but a lot was said. There was no fight with Sunil. I love him and I like to work with best people. I was bit irritated. Whatever has happened I still love him.
“I wanted him to launch the trailer of our film. I told him to come for the trailer launch but he is in Canada for a show. I think if he would have been here, he would have surely come.”
When he was asked about keeping celebs waiting for him on the sets of his show, he said. “SRK had to come at 7, and I was on the sets at 2pm. But at 8, I couldn’t think I could do it. I couldn’t perform. Same happened with Anil (Kapoor) sir. They were all very supportive. They told me to rest. It was reported that they left angrily, but they returned to check on me. Then I went to Bangalore and I locked myself in a room and started drinking a lot to hurt myself. People would tell me to come out of my office, where I locked myself. To get away from all the negativity I would drink. In the bargain I cancelled a lot of my shows.”
The actor then went to a rehab in Bangalore and is now in a much happy space in life.
“Firangi”, which marks Kapil’s second big screen outing after “Kis Kisko Pyaar Karoon”, is set to release on November 10.
