Amidst the ongoing protest, local fringe groups in Uttar Pradesh have issued warning to cinema halls screening it. In Bareilly, a member of Akhil Bhartiya Chhatriya Mahasabha Sukhbir Singh Bhadoria has threatened “to plant bombs in cinema halls showing Padmaavat”.

“We will plant bombs in cinema halls… Modi must stop the movie’s release. If it doesn’t happen, I will kill the director of the movie Bhansali (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) with my own hands,” Bhadoria said.

While, another member of the group Bhuvneshwar Singh had threatened to attack Parliament and burn the Supreme Court.

Bareilly Police has registered an FIR against unidentified persons and charged them with sedition. “FIR has been registered at Kotwali police station under section 124A( Sedition), 506(Criminal intimidation) of IPC and relevant sections of IT Act,” said superintendent of police of Bareilly Rohit Singh Sajwan.

The movie stars Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in the lead roles and has been directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

After the film was passed with a UA certificate from the Central Board of Film Certification, some states including Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat decided to ban the release of the film. The makers moved to the Supreme Court to take legal action against the people calling for the ban.

Thankfully, the apex court stayed the ban on Padmaavat and in the verdict clearly mentioned that no state can impose a ban on the release of a movie. “Our order must be followed by one and all. States can’t show helplessness in maintaining law and order. States have a duty to abide by SC orders. Don’t watch if you don’t want to but there can’t be a ban on screening,” the court said.
