The iconic RK Films and Studios which was built by the late Bollywood actor and producer Raj Kapoor nearly 70 years ago is all set to be sale by Kapoor family.
The studio which is located in Chembur was in the news last year in September when a major fire broke out. Raj Kapoor’s wife and sons Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv Kapoor along with daughters Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain have unanimously decided to sell the studio.
The Kapoor family took this decision with a heavy heart.Rishi Kapoor had spoke to the media regarding the same and now Randhir Kapoor opens up about this big decision.
While talking to The Quint, Randhir Kapoor described the sale of RK Studio has left the family sad but it was not viable anymore for them to set up a new studio. “With the state of the roads and traffic today, no actor comes to Chembur to shoot in this studio. They would rather go to Film City. So, with a very heavy heart, we have decided to let it go. My whole family is very sad, but there’s no other way,” he said.[ecp code=”4″]
“We had to dismantle the entire place after the fire. It’s, even more, an emotional loss than a monetary loss. We have lost the entire memorabilia of Raj Kapoor. Whatever Raj Kapoor had built has been burnt down. Everything is gone.” he added.
Last year on September 16, a major fire broke out at one of the main stages of RK Studio and destroyed the sets of a dance reality show while the ground floor was gutted.
The films made under the RK banner include Aag, Barsaat, Awaara, Shri 420, Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai, Mera Naam Joker, Bobby, Satyam Shivam Sundaram, Ram Teri Ganga Maili, among others.
The last film made under the banner was Rishi Kapoor-directed “Aa Ab Laut Chalen”.
