Shilpa Shetty goes bald for her film ‘The Desire’. The Indo-Chinese venture has her portraying the role of a monk. But the actress hasn’t really shaved her head, she went in for a prosthetic make-up, which would take about four hours to do every day. “The Desire — A Journey of a Woman”, produced by her mother Sunanda, has been winning quite a few awards lately.

TV actress Rinku Karmarkar has shaved off her head to fit into her character on daily soap “Yeh Vaada Raha”. Surprisingly, it was the actress’ idea to sport a bald pate. “I was fed up of wearing a wig as the pins that held it together would prick and hurt my scalp. So I told my unit that it would be better if I went bald. They conveyed it to the makers, who were shocked to hear this. When they asked me, I told them that taking such a step would enhance the character. “

Tanvi Azmi, who plays Ranveer Singh’s (Bajirao’s) mother in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Bajirao Mastani”, has gone bald for her part in the film. Her commitment and professionalism did not go in vain and she won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor for her outstanding performance as Bajirao’s mother Radhabai.

Actress Antara Mali who acted in films like ‘Road’, ‘Company’ etc. shaved her head for Amol Palekar’s film ‘And Once Again’, in which she played the role of a monk and was appreciated for her outstanding performance. The source said, “She immediately agreed to sign the film and didn’t think twice about shaving her head, because her role, which is that of a female monk in Sikkim, requires it.”

Shabana Azmi shaved off her head for Deepa Mehta’s film ‘Water‘, which unfortunately got shelved due to protests from certain groups. The film was made but without the original cast. Though she could not be a part of the movie, her going bald was surely not in vain as we think (and so does her husband) that Shabana Azmi looked amazingly sexy sporting the bald look. Lika Shabana, Nandita Das and Lisa ray too had shaved their head for the same film.

When Deepa Mehta revived her project “Water” she requested Lisa for the role. Like Shabana and Nandita, Lisa also decided to shave off her hair for the role. However, a few years later, she parted ways with her locks for an entirely different reason. She was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, and the treatment caused her to go the bald way again. Her fight with the disease has been a source of inspiration for millions and we don’t think she has ever looked more beautiful.
